Digital Communications Logger

So Reliable, Compact, and Economical, It's Become An Industry Standard

¡@

¡@

Third Generation Performance and Reliability

¡@

Eventide, the company that invented DDS tape-based digital loggers, continues to enhance its field-proven VR240 Digital Audio Logger. The VR240 is designed to bring affordable digital voice logging to any public safety, financial, broadcast, or customer service agency requiring an archive of 8, 16, or 24 channels of telephone and radio communications.

¡@

Latest Archive Drive Technology

¡@

The VR240 provides powerful performance, offering a choice of either single or dual archive drives. The latest 9.4 gigabyte, double-side, rewriteable DVD - RAM disks provide 1290 channel-hours of storage per medium. These discs are rewriteable thousands of times and are guaranteed by the manufacturer to last 30 years or more. 5.2 gigabytes DVD-RAM drives are also available and provide 700 channel-hours of storage per medium. DDS-2 DAT and DDS-3 DAT drives are optionally available with 550 and 1600+ hours of storage respectively. All archive drive options include the ability to easily upgrade to new features and benefits by simply loading a software upgrade tape or disk into the drive.

¡@

¡@

Internal Hard Disk Features

¡@

On-line, hard disk storage is important for anyone who needs immediate access to recently recorded voice communications. Every VR240 comes standard with a 4GB internal hard disk that provides 540 channel-hours of on-line storage capacity. Optional hard disks can be ordered that provide 1230 (9GB), 2460 (18GB), or 4900(!) (36GB) channel-hours of on-line storage.

The internal hard disk acts as a "media full" buffer. If one or both of the archive drives are off line (not recording) for any reason, the hard disk will continue to record. When the archive drives are returned to the record mode, the audio that came in during the off-line period will be automatically transferred to the archive media, thus maintaining an uninterrupted archive.

Eventide's exclusive SafeDriveTM buffering system uses a portion of the hard disk to record 3 hours of audio before starting the archive drive. Specifically employed for use with delicate DAT archive drives, this system typically reduces the number of drive start-stop cycles by a factor of ten times or more, enhancing DAT drive reliability compared with other digital logger brands.

¡@

Remote Control from a Standard PC

¡@

Eventide's exclusive PC Remote software package installs into any PC running Windows 95 or higher with a 486 Pentium processor or better. This simple-to-install, simple-to-use program provides control of the logger via an RS232/RS485 interface. An audio cable brings the audio from the line-out jack to a high quality speaker unit provided with the package. The computer monitor rests on the speaker so no additional desk space is required. All front panel controls are available from the PC including live monitor, search, play, rewind, fast forward, and instant recall. The software also provides for remote search, play, and live monitor operations from any touch-tone telephone.

¡@

Simplified Installation

¡@

All audio line interfacing is built inside the VR240's compact package including FCC-approved telephone couplers. "Beep" tones to signify a recorded conversation can be added by the VR240 on a channel-selectable basis. Add to this the ability to make all required audio adjustments right from the VR240 front panel and you have the easiest install in the industry.

Proven Track Record

Eventide pioneered digital audio logging for public safety as well as broadcast applications. Thousands of Eventide-built loggers operate around the clock, around the world, in critical applications.
